Before embarking on the design of our new Traffic Control Modular (TCM) Signal Head, we listened to extensive customer feedback regarding the ideal working requirements for a new portable battery operated traffic lights system.
We have spent the last three years redesigning, redeveloping and testing a completely new single signal head control system, which we feel meets the high standards that customers expect.
The new system allows you total interchangeability between heads, creating the potential for 2/3/4 phase and even double head configurations. The need to purchase complete sets is eliminated as you need only order the number of heads you require to suit your individual needs.
We have faithfully adhered to SPW’s original concept of a traffic light system which is simple and easy to operate.
The control boards have been completely redesigned. Electromechanical control relays and individual wiring relays have been removed, and have been replaced with alternative solid state control boards and ribbon control cables.
The system controller has been repositioned and is now mounted as an integral part of the signal head assembly. This has made it more easily accessible, and it is now fully removable if required as a complete unit.
The controller fascia is based around SPW’s original user-friendly design. New innovations mean that the signal head can now be interchanged between master, secondary and slave head functions simply by turning a key switch.
The master controller monitors the functions of primary and secondary signal heads. It now also has a number of other additional functions; the lights can be switched on or off at the turn of a key switch for example; daytime or night time operation, and individual heads can be turned on or off while leaving the remaining heads still running in full sequence.
Signal heads and posts can now be removed more easily, due to the implementation of a plug and socket connection situated between the battery box/trolley and signal head post.
The battery boxes/trolleys are of a similar design to SPW’s well-proven previous supply, but now come with improved wiring looms and fuse plates. The battery clamps have been further improved to provide a better battery location and added security. The battery clamp comes as part of a standard assembly which includes an additional battery box lid clamp – also fitted as standard.
All statutory and required testing has been carried out, both in-house and out in the field, and has yielded very positive results. The redeveloped heads have proven to be extremely reliable in operation, and are capable of running uninterrupted for over 560 hours on fully charged batteries with an SG of 1285. We are confident that these results are due to the redesigned functions of the new controller and the newly improved LED heads.
Extra facilities and options available for the SPW TCM:
For added mechanical security:
Battery box wheel clamps
Battery box security enclosure
(Can be transported with lights on standard 2 way 750kilo and 4 way trailer)
Additional electronic operational functions:
Security tracking system
Live video streaming
Remote green light time change
Alert signal when battery box is opened
The additional electronic functions detailed above can all be controlled from any UK location via mobile phone network and computer system with internet access.
Upgrading existing equipment to the SPW TCM system
Existing SPW Traffic Control equipment can easily be upgraded to the new SPW TCM system. The existing signal heads and battery boxes can simply be complemented with new TCM controllers and new design post
